Three Hundred and Thirteen

Friday, April 22

Smoothie.

Mango orange smoothie, created by the one and only Brian D Walsh, beloved leader of smoothies. I consider myself pretty well-acquainted with all things blended, so let it be known that Brian can officially make me fruit drinks whenever he pleases.

Modeled by Alysia Z N Newsom.

Three Hundred and Twelve

Thursday, April 21

Chinese food.

Thanks to the chefs at Rancho La Scherpa for this. Beef & broccoli, veggie spring rolls and salad with kidney beans, black olives, cheese, and probably Ranch(o) dressing.

Three Hundred and Eleven

Wednesday, April 20

Pear & cottage cheese.

Not much to say about this, other than that it's so spoon-licking good. Cottage cheese plain? Delicious. Pears plain? Delicious. The two together? That much more delicious.

Three Hundred and Ten

Tuesday, April 19

Matzo sandwich.

I managed to not only make a turkey & tomato sandwich on a matzo, spread with mayo and dijon mustard, but also to cut it in half without the matzo breaking. I felt this was remarkable. Of course, it took like five minutes with a heavily serrated knife, but still.

Three Hundred and Nine

Monday, April 18

Dessert.

The night called for a fancy dessert, and Mom delivered. Chocolate mousse, topped with chocolate shavings, berry coulis, whipped cream, mint and a fresh raspberry. The garnish consists of a fresh berry medley, whipped cream, berry coulis and this wonderful crisped rice chocolate "chips." The perfect ending to a delicious meal provided by Brittany Coker!

Three Hundred and Eight

Sunday, April 17

In N Out.

Protein burger: the phenomenon of In N Out, wrapped in lettuce.

Oh, and a Dr Pepper.

Three Hundred and Seven

Saturday, April 16

Corned beef.

Boiled corned beef, steamed cabbage and roasted potatoes & onions & garlic. Really tender and flavorful.

Three Hundred and Six

Friday, April 15

Bleu cheese.

Costello bleu cheese, nice and pungent but I definitely have to be in the mood for it.

Three Hundred and Five

Thursday, April 14

BBQ chicken soup.

I took all the ingredients typically found in a BBQ chicken spice rub and I put them in a soup, including the chicken. It was sweet and spicy, really deep flavors.

Three Hundred and Four

Wednesday, April 13

Tamale.

Chicken tamale, topped with sour cream, hot sauce and cilantro.

Three Hundred and Three

Tuesday, April 12

Sandwich.

Banana, peanut butter and honey on whole wheat. This sandwich is nothing but a hound dog.

Three Hundred and Two

Monday, April 11

Pizza.

Garlic & herb pizza dough, covered with herbed tomato sauce, cheddar cheese and french fried onions. This idea was so fantastic that I can't remember if it was Mom's or mine. I like to think we both thought of it at the same time. Otherwise it was just Mom.

Three Hundred and One

Sunday, April 10

Salmon bites.

Baked phyllo cups filled with a rosette of mascarpone cheese and topped with smoked salmon, capers, chives and a drizzle of lemon juice. I think I ate, oh, maybe 20 of these.

Three Hundred

Saturday, April 9

Chocolate truffles.

Creamy chocolate truffles, rolled in chocolate shavings, crushed walnuts and nonpareils. Very rich but also very hard to resist. They're so small! Better have ten.

Two Hundred and Ninety-Nine

Friday, April 8

Eggs Benedict.

Coddled egg, julienned smoked salmon, creamy hollandaise and dill on top of a hamburger bun (so soft and amazing). One of my favorite dishes.

Two Hundred and Ninety-Eight

Thursday, April 7

Mini chimichangas.

Filled with shredded beef and chicken, topped with a salsa cream and cilantro. I got like a million of these at a Mexican restaurant. So tasty.

Two Hundred and Ninety-Seven

Wednesday, April 6

Baby heirloom tomatoes.

I think I could eat tomatoes all day. Regardless of the kind. Although these would probably be one of my first choices.

Two Hundred and Ninety-Six

Tuesday, April 5

Chocolate.

72% is right around where I like to stay, chocolate-wise. Though I wouldn't say no to a nice bar of 84%...if anyone was wondering.

Two Hundred and Ninety-Five

Monday, April 4

Pasta y fagioli.

Similar to last time, but this time with elbows instead of orzo, and also more carrots this time. I can't decide which I like better...I loved the texture that the elbows added, but I also like the "hash" feel that the orzo provides. I bet it would be good with just about any kind of pasta.

Y fagioli.

Two Hundred and Ninety-Four

Sunday, April 3

Snap peas.

I had only had these a handful of times before, and now I have them a handful at a time.....see what I did there? Nice and fresh and sweet and delicious!

Two Hundred and Ninety-Three

Saturday, April 2

Breakfast.

Scrambled eggs with cheese, diced sausage and hot sauce, accompanied by sourdough + strawberry preserves.

Two Hundred and Ninety-Two

Friday, April 1

Beer.

Black Butte Porter. My taste for beer is very similar to my taste for chocolate: impossibly dark, bitter and with just the right hint of sweetness. This beer = success.

Two Hundred and Ninety-One

Thursday, March 31

Pasta, etc.

Shells with creamy cheese sauce, chicken and broccoli, sprinkled generously with paprika and served with toasted artisan bread.

Two Hundred and Ninety

Wednesday, March 30

Fruit.

I stayed at the de Giers' for a night and Taylor was kind enough to whip up some delicious breakfast fruit for me! Blueberries, blackberries and strawberries.

Two Hundred and Eighty-Nine

Tuesday, March 29

Fajita.

What did I say about fajita variants?! I love them. This one is chicken and peppers and tomatoes and rice and an avocado cream and hot sauce and I cannot tell you how hungry I am right now.

Two Hundred and Eighty-Eight

Monday, March 28

Chocolate milkshake.

Creamy, chocolaty and ice cold. I think one should consume very few things that don't meet those three criteria.

Two Hundred and Eighty-Seven

Sunday, March 27

Asparagus.

Roasted asparagus topped with a lemony hollandaise and freshly cracked black pepper. What more could you want?

Two Hundred and Eighty-Six

Saturday, March 26

Blueberry crumb cake.

Despite various puns indicating that this coffee cake was "crummy," I really loved it. It's a very moist cake, topped with a buttery streusel and sliced almonds before baking.

Two Hundred and Eighty-Five

Friday, March 25

Salmon stew.

Potatoes, celery, onions, chunk of salmon and all kinds of other things. This was a surprising hit.

To our taste buds!

In a good way.

Two Hundred and Eighty-Four

Thursday, March 24

Hot dog marinara.

Haha, yes. This is a hot dog smothered in marinara sauce and mozzarella and then broiled. And I'd do it again.

Two Hundred and Eighty-Three

Wednesday, March 23

Trail mix.

Just a simple mix that I threw together, which has now become a staple in this house. Salted roasted peanuts, dried cranberries and dark chocolate chips. Have also substituted cashews.

Two Hundred and Eighty-Two

Tuesday, March 22

Shirley Temple.

Or at least almost a Shirley Temple. Ginger ale, grenadine and cherries. Don't Call Me Shirley Temple.

Two Hundred and Eighty-One

Monday, March 21

Chinese medley.

I tried my hand at beef siu mai and was pleasantly pleased at the result. Basically, they're Asian-spiced meatballs clothed in wonton wrappers. Also, orange chicken and garlic roasted asparagus.

Two Hundred and Eighty

Sunday, March 20

Tortilla pizza.

Yeah, that happened. Herbed tomato sauce and mozzarella on top of a crispy toasted tortilla. It was about as good as it sounds: really really good.

Two Hundred and Seventy-Nine

Saturday, March 19

Hot chocolate.

I'm usually not a fan of hot cocoa beverages, but on a rainy, grey day, hot chocolate and cinnamon toast just sounded perfect. And it was.

Two Hundred and Seventy-Eight

Friday, March 18

Grapefruit.

Drizzled with honey. I <3 fruit.

Two Hundred and Seventy-Seven

Thursday, March 17

Peach coffee cake.

Light and creamy with a crumbly topping and sweet peaches...UGH why is food so good?!

Two Hundred and Seventy-Six

Wednesday, March 16

Jambalaya.

My take on a Cajun classic, with sauteed diced turkey breast and sausage instead of shrimp and pork. Topped with parmesan, scallions and parsley.

Two Hundred and Seventy-Five

Tuesday, March 15

Pasta & meatballs.

An orzo and spinach "risotto," topped with Italian beef meatballs and mozzarella.

Two Hundred and Seventy-Four

Monday, March 14

Beer.

San Miguel Dark, to be exact. A favorite in this household.

Two Hundred and Seventy-Three

Sunday, March 13

Egg drop soup.

If I were to be asked, "do you like egg drop soup?" I would feel compelled to answer it with another question: "is it Chinese?" In future, save yourself the trouble of asking. Chinese food is good.

Two Hundred and Seventy-Two

Saturday, March 12

Sausage fajitas.

Sauteed bell peppers and onions with apple & gouda sausage, smothered with hot sauce and wrapped up in a big tortilla. I could probably eat some fajita variation every night.

Two Hundred and Seventy-One

Friday, March 11

Marble pound cake.

This was the most tender cake ever! I used bitter chocolate so it wasn't overly sweet, which I liked. I should make this again. Now.

Two Hundred and Seventy

Thursday, March 10

Pasta y fagioli.

Orzo and various beans and lot and lots of parmesan. Those Italians really know what's what.
